Quote:"I believe...in magic!" - Tim Hunter, Books of Magic

Max is the true main character of this story, though sometimes the light will shine on someone else. For lack of better terms, Max can come off very much like a nerd or a geek. He get excellent grades in school, but his home life isn't that great. He is the neglected younger sibling in his family, always in the shadow of his older sister in college, Morgan. It's made Max try to impress his parents, without much success. When he couldn't get that to work, Max retreated into the world of books, comics, and videogames. Stories dealing with fantasy and magic appeal to him most, and he nearly idolizes Peter Parker, Harry Potter and Tim Hunter. That led him to his sense of style. Max is a dreamer, who tries to break free of his tiresome life of being unpopular and bullied by everyone in school. He believes in magic, and the supernatural. Max is a nice guy, who might have his head stuck in the clouds sometimes, but would defend the underdog until the bitter end.

Notes: Max's name means 'homely leader' which is kinda appropriate for him. He came from my first attempt at an original story, which was then a novel, but the beginning was too "Harry Potter" so I meshed him with my other comic which at the time was called Unlikely Heroes. Believe me, putting the two together is an extremely odd combination. Unlikely Heroes had Fury as the main character with much different circumstances. Though, I am happy I combined the two into this comic. This is a much better way to tell the story.

Cora is a smart girl. She gets some of the best grades of all her classmates. That doesn't mean Cora is popular. Not by any means. She's Max's only friend, and is about as popular as he is. She's made fun of mostly by the girls in their grade, but is picked on by Dexter Williams more than anyone else. Cora is quiet and reserved, but has a backbone; it's just hidden underneath years of being beaten down by the hierarchy of school. Cora is scientific, and thus, keeps Max grounded when she thinks he's getting too outrageous with his belief in magic. Her levelheaded- ness is both a blessing and a curse, as it can cause her to keep herself and Max from trying to break free of the labels that have been forced upon them. Cora enjoys reading, mythology, Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show, and the comics that Max makes her read.

Extra Notes: Cora's name means "Cherished"...either that or her full name Corinna. I can't remember anymore. In the first sketches of her, she was also a thin 'pretty' brunette, but was changed as soon as I added Fury in, as a brunette (mostly). Then for a more realistic approach to the comic, I made her a little heavier. Cora's shirt is also an in-joke, created by Ed Dewey, he so nicely let me use. Colonel Tomato is the communist tomato with aspirations for world domination. In the comic, he's a fairly popular cartoon character. You might see him on a TV, t-shirt, or poster. And during Halloween, someone might don their own Colonel Tomato costume. There's no story that will be centered around him, it's just something that Ed and I find really funny. Silly tomato...

Fury is the kinda girl you've probably known before. She's very unpopular, but she gets angry about it, as opposed to Cora who just takes it with somewhat good humor. Fury's full name is Phoenix Blaize, but only her friends call her by her real name. Guess where she got her nickname? Yep. Fury's got a temper. Most of it is just letting of steam at how unfair most things are, but she'll stand up and put her money where her mouth is if need be. Because she doesn't just act tough, she is tough. She's taken martial arts for years, but only uses it in what she calls a 'fair fight.' That means she's gotten in a few fights with some guys in the school. She says most of the girls buy into the "girly" image and she refuses to fight them. It's her weird code of honor. Underneath the blustery exterior is a nice girl, though. She's fiercely loyal to whatever friends she has, and has a killer sense of humor, biting sarcasm, and sharp wit. She's also an artist, running an unsuccessful webcomic while trying her hand at writing. Anything creative, she'll try. She and her friends Dante and Ron have a band called 'Anything But Ordinary.' She's an avid comic book, videogame, movie, MST3K and horror geek. She also collects action figures.

Notes: Fury has been in circulation of my projects since summer 1999. She's my oldest character that I never gave up on. She's heavily based on me, or a personification of how I think some people might see me. She's louder than I am, though. And prettier.
